Sabine Winter - The Southampton Connection

In Topolcany (Slovakia) Germany's Sabine Winter was in devastating form when from a 9th place seeding she took the European Youth Top 10 title in convincing fashion. She defeated Dora MADARASZ of Hungary in the deciding match of the event - (this complete match is available on the Waterside Video Channel). So what is the Southampton connection? Sabine's father Mark Winter is a former Southampton League player from his time at Southampton University in the early 1980's.

There was yet another Southampton League connection in that the umpire for this match was none other than Matej Hamran who will be very familiar to players at Waterside and Southampton Premier Division as he played for Waterside in recent months.
