Chrissie Slot adds to her trophy collection

At the first Waterside 1 Star tournament the girls events were as expected totally dominated by England No.2 U13 girl Chrissie Slot. It is somewhat unusual to have a such a strong player competing in a 1 Star event but Chrissie wanted to win the first ETTA event at Waterside TTC and was quite happy to put her ranking points on the line. The boys event was somewhat different with two strong contenders for the title in both events in the shape of Marcus Giles and Hugo Pang.

The U13 boys deciding match was played between the two favourites and Marcus Giles emerged as the winner in a 4 set thriller. The U13 girls event was won by Chrissie Slot but the big battle was the match up between Lois Peake and Letitia McMullan, this was a nailbiter of a match which swung this way and that. Letitia came from behind twice to level the match and then got her head in front to take the match 11-6 in the 5th end.

Although the above named players were the strongest on the day, comments were made about the fine qualities of all who competed.

The final positions in the two U13 events were as follows

U13 Girls

  1. Chrissie Slot
  2. Letitia McMullan
  3. Lois Peake
  4. Rhiannon Gray
  5. Amy Blagbrough
  6. Ruth Pickering

U13 Boys

  1. Marcus Giles
  2. Hugo Pang
  3. Jake Westwood
  4. Oliver Gunns
  5. Kieran Gray
  6. Leo Long
  7. Jonathan McMullan
  8. Joseph Pickering

The under 15 events featured the same players contesting the top places. The big question was would they finish in the same order or could someone upset the apple cart?
In the U15 Girls Chrissie Slot stamped her authority again but what of 2nd place. The match up of Lois Peake and Letitia McMullan was once again the deciding match for 2nd and 3rd place. Could Letitia pull off another surprise against the higher ranked girl?
Both girls were determined and to no-ones surprise the match went to the 5th end again. This time Lois took the honours with a final set win of 11-8.

The 3 round group system in the Boys U15 event saw Marcus Giles once again defeat Hugo Pang with Ross Macniven taking 3rd place ahead of Finny Wilson in the top group.

Final placings in the U15 events were as follows

U15 Girls

  1. Chrissie Slot
  2. Lois Peake
  3. Letitia McMullan
  4. Rhiannon Gray
  5. Rebecca Kuzu

At the end of the day Marcus Giles and Chrissie Slot walked away with the main trophies and they should be well satisfied with their performances.
The event was a great success and Waterside Club would like to thank all those who travelled from other areas and made this such a good tournament.

The next Waterside 1 Star is scheduled for Saturday 26th June 2010 and we look forward to seeing you there.
